The Wonder of the Blood

I have a story I want to share with you!

Every Sunday after church, my husband picks up our three kids from children's ministry and they'll come looking for me in the sanctuary. I always know when they're coming because I hear yelling and shrieking as they run down the aisles to find me.

As wild as they are sometimes, I love that they are making sweet memories growing up in God's house (it's always been important to my husband and I that they grow up loving being in church).

A few Sundays ago, the kids found a basket the ushers were using to pass out communion cups. They were intrigued by what they found and asked if they could take some of the cups home. I told them that before we indulged in what in their minds was a treat, that we wanted to explain what taking communion meant first.

We later sat down together and explained that communion was a moment of remembrance for what Jesus did on the cross for us – the grape juice representing the blood of Jesus and the cracker representing His body that was broken for us. It turned into a beautiful moment of reflecting on the Gospel with our children.

We proceeded to open the cups and drink the grape juice and Liam, with a deeply concerned expression on his face, yelled, “But mom, I don't want to drink the blood!

I quickly calmed him down and explained that we weren't actually drinking real blood, it was just juice representing the blood of Jesus.

We all broke out into an uncontrollable laugh!

But, in all seriousness, I told Liam, “I know you don't fully understand right now, but you want the blood of Jesus at work in your life.

As I have been preparing my heart for Easter this year, this very thought is something I cannot shake – we need the blood of Jesus working in our lives! In fact, it's essential.

It's the blood of Jesus that sets us free from sin. It breaks the power that sin has over us so that we can be free.

It's the blood of Jesus that offers us forgiveness so that we can be in a right standing relationship with God. That means we can be close to Him, connected to Him intimately. (Y'all this is the very thing our soul longs for!)

It's the blood of Jesus that breaks the power of death. When we accept Christ as our Savior, we do not have to fear dying. Death is just a doorway to eternity with Jesus, it's not the end for us!

It's the blood of Jesus that protects us, delivers us, heals us, cleanses us and gives us victory!

When we speak the name of Jesus over our lives, our families, and our circumstances, we are essentially saying “Jesus, we believe in your death and resurrection and because of the blood that was shed, these areas of our lives have to come into alignment with what you did on the cross.

One of my favorite verses is found in Revelation 12:11 and it says this, “They triumphed over him (the enemy) by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.

We have victory because of the blood of Jesus!

Friends, don't miss Jesus this Easter. He died and rose again so that you could live. He shed his blood so that you could have life – here on earth but also for all of eternity!

Trust me, you want the blood of Jesus working in your life!
